Dropbox Will Compensate Users For Security Check

Dropbox is just like Google Drive users with free storage reward if they go through a security check.During the 'health check' that examines issues such as login method and institutions to share data. Users who go through the check at all will be rewarded with free storage. Patrick Heim Dropbox lets opposite site V3 know.

According to Heim find most attacks on users via reused passwords. "The biggest challenge is consumers who reuse credentials on multiple websites, and we see a pattern that be hacked websites, they may not know it, and the encrypted passwords are stolen." Then attackers can crack the password hashes and use it to log into other accounts from the user.

Heim says that after a hacked website logging increases with stolen passwords. He advises consumers whatsoever for any website to choose a unique password and set up two-factor authentication. In February this year rewarded Google users of Google Drive with 2GB of extra space when the security of their account through a security check checked. But it was a temporary one action has ended.

Ransomware Distributed Through Google And Yandex Disk Drive

Cyber criminals have started a new campaign in which she websites of ministries and energy companies to recreate and then spread through Google Drive and Yandex Disk ransomware. It is a campaign of the Torrent Locker ransomware, which according to the Japanese anti-virus company Trend Micro focuses primarily on UK Internet users.

The attack begins with an email from British Gas, the Ministry of Interior or the Ministry of Justice seems to come. Unlike many other ransomware attacks the e-mail contains no attachment but a link that points to a convincing website. This site seems to be a copy of the original site of the power or ministry, stating that the user must enter a captcha, for example, to see his energy bill.

The captcha is probably the researchers used automated analysis to avoid anti-virus companies and researchers. Once the captcha is completed there will be downloaded a zip file. Were these zip files before storage services SendSpace, MediaFire and Copy.com stored now use the cyber criminals Disk Yandex and Google Drive.

For hosting the images used in the emails make criminals using hacked websites. Trend Micro discovered a total of 800 hacked domains where the images were stored or used as redirect the link in the e-mails functioned.

PowerPoint Leak Used To Spread Malware

Vulnerability in PowerPoint, which was patched by Microsoft last year is now being actively used to infect activists in Tibet and Hong Kong with malware. The attacks are part of a larger campaign that is taking place for years. Remarkably, however, the use of PowerPoint leak.

Previously used the attackers vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office respectively in 2010 and 2012. The use of the PowerPoint leak would for the first time in two years the trend. For the dissemination of the PowerPoint files as well as e-mail attachments using links to Google Drive. To warn activists against the risk of email attachments campaign "was Detach from Attachments "starts. It is just recommended to use cloud storage for sharing files, such as Google Drive.

The fact that the attackers now use Google Drive, according to the investigators as possibly an indication that the attackers adapt accordingly. When users open the PowerPoint updates from Microsoft are not installed and the presentation they can with a remote access Trojan (RAT) become infected. The malware would be recognized by a few virus scanners.

In total, the researchers saw the Canadian CitizenLab five campaigns where the PowerPoint leak was deployed. To let users do not suspect they get to see a real presentation, while the malware is installed in the background. "The recycled content, low detection scanners and that users do not know that these files are malicious, ensure that these attacks are worrying," the researchers said.

Cv Ransomware Spreading Through Double Zip File

How It Works
The use of CVs and zip files to distribute ransomware has long been distributing a successful method for cyber criminals to ransomware and other malware, but researchers from Cisco recently discovered an attack in which two zip files were used.

The attack begins with an email claiming to be a response to a previous mail contains an attached zip file. The zip file contains no resume, but an HTML file. This HTML file refers to a hacked WordPress page with an iframe. This iframe pointing back to Google Drive where the second zip file is downloaded. The contents of the zip file is a .scr file that actually CryptoWall is 3.0 ransomware.

This ransomware encrypts then all kinds of files on your computer and requires a certain amount to decrypt them. According to Cisco cyber criminals with this kind of tricks, and the use of macros and password-protected zip files, very successful in bypassing various security solutions.

Cisco Raises The Alarm For Advancing Macro-Malware

In half a year, the number of attacks doubled through macro-malware, network giant Cisco reason to sound the alarm. The malware is distributed via e-mail attachments that contain Word documents. Once the document is opened, the user is asked whether he wants to enable macros, because Microsoft has it turned off by default for security reasons.

According to Tim Gurganus Cisco, many people forget and turn the threat of macros then, so the malicious code in the document to download and install malware. A successful approach, as evidenced by the increase in the number of e-mail attacks macro-malware is used. The problem is compounded because most email filters and business office documents and not block the malicious macro code geobfusceerd and is very difficult to detect.

The first malicious macros were still out of 150 lines of code, which have now been there in 1500. The makers have all kinds of measures taken to avoid detection and the tactics in the field of social engineering refined. Thus allowed to open a blank page after the first copies, which could alert users that something was wrong. Since early this year "distraction Documents" displayed while in the background the infection takes place. Consequently, users will not suspect that it is malware.

It also appears that the attackers regularly hacked legitimate websites or cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive or Pastebin.com use to host the malware. The big advantage is that the domains do not stand out in traffic and will not be blocked soon. "Macro-malware is also a good example of malware makers who respond severely becoming security measures, such as blocking zip files containing .exe files. Attackers continue to adapt their tactics, techniques and procedures," said Gurganus.

Google Rewards Users For Security Check With 2GB Storage

As part of Safer Internet Day gives Google users Google Drive 2 gigabytes of additional storage when a security check to perform. According to the Internet giant, users can check their account this way or it is secured. It prompts you to verify the data with which an account can be restored.

In case Google suspicious activity in an account detects users are accessed through this data. The second step in the security check consists of verifying the credentials. This allows users to see if there are others with stolen credentials to login to their account. Finally, it should be confirmed that apps and devices allowed to access account information. Once the audit is performed, there will be at the end of this month 2GB of storage space to be added. The action of Google is 17th February.

In a recent phishing attack on users of Google Docs and Google Drive cybercriminals have the phishing page where victims had to introduce hosted on the servers of Google. Their credentials Something the phishing attack is both refined and remarkable, says Symantec.

Google Docs phishing login page

The anti-virus company discovered the attack, which starts with an email subject "Documents" has. The email prompts the recipient to view an important document. The link does not point to Google Docs, but after a fake Google login page. The neppagina however hosted on Google's servers and then ran over an SSL-secured connection, which makes the attack seem more convincing.
In this case, the scammers a folder in a Google Drive account is created, placed it in a file and then put the public folder. The preview feature of Google Drive they got this way a publicly accessible URL that was added. To the phishing emails When users their information on the phishing page fill go directly to the criminals behind the attack, while the victim to the real Google Docs page is redirected and possibly nothing by it.
